Come to think of it, every human being on earth is occupied by a mundane spectrum of life. We count the next second, plan ahead for future and are certain for almost everything. Yet, nothing can rule out the fact that life is very unpredictable. Living amidst the thick of present and future which continues to swirl the wheel of life, we forget to really live.
No one can predict death, nor count their days till. Her untimely departure reminds us this important lesson. Fasiha Noor belonged to Islamabad and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow in human body generates an additional number of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. People normally regard it as the cancer of blood and bone marrow.
Weeks ago, Fasiha Noor’s family requested the community for prayers. She was in a critical condition and one of her cousins, taking a leap of faith, requested people for their prayers.
Fasiha fought bravely and is being remembered for her courage. She left behind an important realization regarding her strength as a cancer patient. It is one example of fighting bravely. However, she lost the battle last night and returns to where we all have to be one day. Her friends and family stood by her through the thick of everything.

Imagine you are sixteen. You have plans for your future but suddenly your future becomes uncertain. They tell you this could be it. You can’t imagine this because this is not your story. However, this is the story of Fasiha Noor Khan, the girl the Pakistani internet has come together to help.
Fasiha Noor Khan is a 16-year-old girl who studies at Beaconhouse School System. Fasiha is a beautiful and compassionate girl who is loved by family and friends alike. In April 2016, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After several chemotherapy sessions, the doctors declared her cancer free. A few months ago, Fasiha started feeling severe pain in her legs. The pain was accompanied by fever. After checkups, the doctors came to the conclusion that the cancer has returned. But this time, chemotherapy cannot help Fasiha. Instead, she will need a bone marrow transplant to fight the cancer. Fasiha’s mother, a widower, cannot pay the hospital bills. She sold her belongings to pay for her daughter’s chemotherapy, so this time she’s asking her friends and family to help.
Fasiha’s friends first started sharing her story and appealed for donations on Instagram. The campaign quickly got everyone’s attention and everyone started sharing Instagram user and Fasiha’s friend @ghinasohail’s Instastory.
From Instagram, it reached Twitter. A gofundme was set up by Fasiha’s friend and everyone started donating generously. Everyone saw themselves, their siblings, their children, or their friends in Fasiha. Empathy can solve everything. It got the campaign trending on gofundme. It brought together artists on Instagram who are selling their paintings to raise donations for this girl they have never met.
Empathy made people from all walks of life come together, donate, and spread the message to other people. Malik Riaz offered to take care of all the medical expenses.
In under six days, the gofundme reached its goal of $50K.
Every day we are criticizing Pakistani internet for being filled with arguments and useless debates. But the way everyone came together to help Fasiha not only makes us see that social media can actually do wonders but also restores our faith in our community. Now let us all pray for Fasiha’s speedy recovery so she can go back to living her life like a normal teenager.
