Asif Ali (born 1 October 1991) is a Pakistani first-class cricketer who is currently playing for Islamabad United.
An exceptional timer of the ball, Asif Ali came to prominence when he scored a century on his T20 debut for Faisalabad in 2011. That early promise wasn’t followed upon by much:
Asif remained a constant threat in Faisalabad’s T20 side but wasn’t able to utilize his talents in the longer formats. Over the next five years he became another wonderkid lost to the domestic game.
Two years at Islamabad United have revived his career. He was the star of the win against Karachi Kings in PSL 1 which started Islamabad United’s record run of six wins in a row. His fielding came to the fore in that edition’s final when he grabbed an outstanding catch to remove Kevin Pietersen.
In PSL 2 he struggled for form until the knockout stages, when he scored nearly half of Islamabad United’s runs as the team was knocked out in the Eliminator.
He has since followed that up with his best First Class season, where he finished as Faisalabad’s highest scorer in the 2017/18 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and finished with a record of 178 runs (average 36, SR 160) in the domestic T20 competition that season.
